Jack’s exit was not orderly.

He had planned a gentle stroll across the car park, but the dread set in. He had wanted to steal a couple of hundred and leave some bullets in the ceiling. He was a long way off that result. He grabbed the moneybag and ran. As he approached the car, he slowed down and tried to conquer the panic.

‘Take off the boiler suit, hat, gloves and trainers before getting into the car. Put on new gloves and everything else into the plastic bag,’ he recited. He tied the bag, placed it inside another bin liner, which he sealed with a plastic ring-tie. Everything that had been upstairs went in a cardboard box in the boot. Would there still be forensic evidence despite all his precautions? He wasn’t an expert. He did know that one couldn’t create a crime scene involving that volume of body fluids and not have a single drop of spray on oneself. Get in the car and away from this place.

He made it out to the safety of the main road, seconds before the first police car arrived on the factory estate.
